Privacy Policy

Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the RainStorm macOS app only.

It explains what data RainStorm processes, how that data is handled, and what controls you have.

What RainStorm Does Not Collect

RainStorm is designed to be local-first.

  • RainStorm does not require an account.
  • RainStorm does not include third-party analytics SDKs.
  • RainStorm does not use advertising trackers.
  • RainStorm does not track you across apps or websites.
  • RainStorm does not sell personal information.
  • RainStorm does not automatically send your personal data to RainStorm.

Data Processed Locally on Your Device

RainStorm stores and processes certain data on your Mac to provide app features.

1) App, scheduler, and audio settings

RainStorm stores your preferences in local UserDefaults, including items such as:

  • visual settings (for example dimming and intensity caps)
  • scheduler settings (for example timing, quiet hours, and pause behavior)
  • app-blocking settings (for example selected app identifiers and display names)
  • audio volume preferences

This data stays on your device unless you choose to share it.

2) Optional meeting detection signals

If you enable meeting detection features, RainStorm checks microphone and/or camera in-use status to decide whether to pause storms.

  • RainStorm checks in-use state only.
  • RainStorm does not record microphone audio.
  • RainStorm does not capture camera video.
  • RainStorm does not store call content.

3) Optional app-blocking signals

If you enable app blocking, RainStorm uses local app activity signals (such as selected running or frontmost apps) to pause automatic storms based on your settings.

Permissions RainStorm May Request

RainStorm may request these macOS permissions:

  • Camera and/or Microphone: used only for optional meeting detection logic (in-use state checks).
  • User-selected file access: used when you choose where to save an exported support log file.

You can deny or revoke permissions at any time in macOS system settings.

Support Log Exports (User-Initiated)

RainStorm includes an optional “Download Logs…” support feature.

  • Export happens only when you initiate it.
  • You choose the destination file location.
  • RainStorm creates a local support log file for you to review and share if you want support.

Support log files can include:

  • RainStorm log entries from Apple unified logging for the app subsystem
  • app/build, macOS version, and hardware metadata (for example Mac model identifier, CPU core counts, architecture, and RAM amount)
  • configuration snapshots (app settings, scheduler settings, runtime renderer config)
  • connected screen metadata (for example screen name, frame size, and scale factor)

RainStorm does not automatically upload support logs.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

RainStorm does not automatically share your data with third parties.

Data is shared only if you choose to share it, for example by sending an exported support log file to support.

Data Retention

  • Local settings remain on your device until you change them, clear app data, or remove the app.
  • Exported support log files remain where you save them until you delete them.
  • RainStorm does not maintain a remote profile of your usage.

Your Controls

You can control data use by:

  • disabling meeting detection or app-blocking features
  • revoking camera/microphone permissions in macOS settings
  • choosing not to export support logs
  • deleting any exported support log files you created

Children's Privacy

RainStorm is not directed to children under 13, and RainStorm does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

RainStorm may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are made, the “Effective date” at the top of this policy will be updated.
